Steel surface treatments for tomorrow’s processing equipment

Can you help us bridge the gap between fundamental science and applied industrial R&D?

Are you interested in developing new surface treatments for steels?

Would you like to work with companies such as Alfa Laval and Tetra Pak?

If your answer to these questions is Yes, then we might have a Master thesis project for you. We at Production and Materials Engineering collaborate with the R&D departments in the above-mentioned companies on developing new surface treatments on the steels used in processing equipment, such as heat exchangers. These surface treatments will lay the foundations for smart material that takes us into the industrial area.

By use of thin film deposition and other surface treatments, with subsequent craterisation on the adhesion, electrical isolation, and friction properties your project will result in fundamental research that takes us society step closer to Industry 4.0.

Our aims are:

  • improved product performance
  • reduced energy consumption
  • reduction of material waste and environmental load
